Coming home from the delivery ward

What makes a winning image?  It is an image that scores full marks in a competition, or one that allows you to rekindle a special memory?  This is certainly not a 'winning' image from a competition but it is one of my favourite wildlife images, captured exactly 7 years ago!   I was on a trip to Aviemore and on this particular day it was a climb in the Cairngorms to find mountain hares.  The group split into two, the high climbers out to find a hare no matter what and those less able for the higher peaks of the Cairngorms.  I decided to play it safe and stay with the lower group.

We spotted some goats in the flurries of snow but it was the crying of a young kid that got my attention.  It's bleating to be heard louder than the rest in the vastness of the Cairngorms.  I observed it through my long lens enthralled with it.  I reckoned it was recently enough born, as I could see part of the umbilical cord and the rear of the mum showed the tell tail signs of birth.  She lead it away towards the trees, and watched it before she trotted off, perhaps in search of food.  It continued to bleat, calling for her return.

You can view a panel of five images featuring the mum and kid at SnappyTimes, the photos are not in sequence but laid out for panelling.
