Over the last few years I have enjoyed seeing fledglings and juvenile garden birds appear. It is lovely to observe a parent feeding a youngster that is not quite ready to fend for itself. This time it was a female bullfinch feeding a youngster. Each sighting I notice that the adult appears haggard with flattened feathers on it's head. In contrast the youngster is fluffy and full of life.
This photo was taken with my new Canon R5ii with the EF 100-400mm lens plus 1.4 extender. I had an open aperture of f/8 and a slow shutter speed of 1/320 sec. (because I forgot to change it as I snapped a few shots in a hurry before they left) and auto ISO came in with ISO of 1000. From a composition perspective it is not an ideal shot. I was shooting through the kitchen window so had limited options on positioning the camera. The tree behind is too close and impacts on the image. The posture of the birds isn't great, you can't see much of the female's head or eye. But, on a positive note, the open beak of the youngster and it's wing action helps the shot.
