The Web

 

Another of my strange creature experiences at Reptiles & Exotics, this time a spider with a magnificent web. I find spiders extremely tricky to photograph as they tend one be in a dark location, two move a lot, three its hard to find their eyes (remember the photographer rule - focus on the eye).   Factor in that the spider was in a small tub like container in a dark shop.  This was the only shot I could salvage from the couple taken.  I had set a shutter speed of 1/160 sec. hoping it was enough to freeze the leg movement (it wasn't).  I set the aperture to f/4.5 hoping that the head and legs would be in focus (fail again) and auto ISO set at 5000 (at least it wasn't too grainy, DeNoise has a hard time with the dark soil background, so reckoned I couldn't risk too high).
