Calming the Sea

It was lovely to resume the Sunday morning photography trips, starting with a trip to Clontarf and Bull Island.  The aim was to practice using filters and photograph the lighthouse with the sea 'calmed' as it lapped over the stones providing the leading line.  We knew starting off that the light was not going to be ideal, the priority being the timing of the tide.  Someone had recommended the hour before high tide.  This photo was taken at 9.15 am.  We hadn't bargained on the very strong coastal wind and the freezing cold weather.  Yes, JUNE in Ireland.

We used filters to turn the water to calm the sea and make the scene a lot more tranquil than it really was.  This feature photo had a shutter of 41 seconds and an aperture of f/20 and ISO 100.  I was glad the Peak Design tripod coped with the strong wind (possibly better than I did).  Rain came in quickly so we retired for a chat over refreshments in the coffee dock along North Wall Peer.
