I really enjoy the occasions when I bring my camera to Reptile & Exotics when I am buying insects for my pets. On this particular day, Dan also had his camera and James the owner was happy to take out some interesting creatures to model for us as we compared our macro lenses. This image is of a scorpion, safely in it's container, with James shining his ultraviolet torch on to demonstrate the stunning colours that the scorpion displays which can't be seen in normal daylight.
As the scorpion was moving a bit I used a shutter speed of 1/200 sec. and I set the aperture at f/10 to get more of the scorpion in focus. Auto ISO set the ISO to 2500. The key challenge was to try get the eyes (tiny black dots) in focus and to avoid the small tub container it was in ruining the shot. The reflection is simply the reflection on the side of the plastic container.
