Mono or Colour?

I  spent a couple of hours on Sunday morning in the Dublin Camera Club studio at a workshop taking photos of  Anna who goes by Nute Newt.   Anna was a very willing and patient model who was extremely helpful for those of us less experienced with studio work.  I used the studio lights with a trigger.  I have programmed in studio settings on my mirrorless R6 on one of the programmable functions as there are a couple of tricky things that can prevent you from taking shots.  I found it was important to turn off exposure simulation and also to shoot with mechanical shutter.  In both shots featured here I had the shutter set at 1/160 sec. with an aperture of f/8 and ISO 100.  When shooting in a studio I usually aim to set ISO at 100 and keep the shutter speed at less than 1/200 sec. to ensure it syncs with the flash.  I will adjust the aperture between f/5.6 and f/11.

It can be hard to choose images out of a batch taken to edit and feature.  I find I prefer the model looking at the camera or slightly turned from camera, and the arms close to their body. I sometimes find it difficult to get a nice tone when converting to mono, but in the image above after editing in Lightroom I brought the image into Photoshop to tidy up the background and there I experimented with DXO Silver Effects.  It is a piece of software I rarely use, I find that many of the presets soften the image too much or make it too harsh.  But, the darken lighten seemed to work in this image. The colour image has a warmer tone to it particularly with the light pink scarf.

I couldn't decide on which image to feature so had to include both.
