This shot of Hazel was taken at the famous Guinness Gates at the St James Gate Brewery. There were numerous challenges that morning. Firstly, and significantly trying to find the location of the gate with the old railway track. It is easy to walk around in circles (we did) but thankfully I could pick up the geotag from a mobile phone snap taken on a previous trip a few weeks was we planned the shoot. Then on setting up the lighting we had to contend with strong wind which kept blowing the soft box around and finally a lot of rain cutting the shoot short. We didn't manage to take many shots before the rain and we struggled to get the speedlight in the soft box effective. But the feature shot in this blog had the following settings; 1/100 sec. with an aperture of f/4.5 and ISO 1250.
The 'storyboard' for this shot was:
'model on railway line''model with Guinness in hand''the morning after the night before look''moody early morning'
This was reasonably achieved in the shot. We took photos of both a glass of Guinness and the can. I personally felt that the can seemed more appropriate with our young model and fit better with the 'morning after' look.
The photograph was challenging to edit. The background needed to be brightened increasing exposure and shadows. I also cloned out distracting items. And, I decided to change the model's red boots to blue matching with the tones of her hair and reducing the colour pallet.
