Calm after the Storm

This tranquil shot was taken at Glendalough on the 3rd of January.  A New Year sunrise expedition to Glendalough was  a nice start to the year. The colour and light wasn't ideal so when I saw the fallen branch in the lake I decided to make it a feature in the foreground to add to the shot.  I used filters to enable me to calm the water with a 30 sec. exposure.  I set the aperture to f/16 and the ISO 100.  The shot was taken zoomed at 16mm on my RF 14-35mm lens mounted on my Canon R6 camera body which was on my Peak Design tripod.  I had the tripod only at half the available height for the lower (ish) level shot.

Glendalough is a popular tourist destination which can often be busy and difficult to get photos due to people in the landscape.  However, at sunrise in January you are not going to have many there, with the exception of other photographers (and hopefully not a whole camera club group).   Just under an hours journey from Templeogue it is not too far.  Once there, there is the choice between the upper lake, the lower lake and the monastic site with the round tower.
