This inquisitive pine marten popped out from the tree trunk having gone in search of a snack. The pine marten has brown fur with a cream coloured bib on its throat area. They have a bushy tail but it is not as bushy as the squirrel. They have great sense of sight, smell and hearing. They favor well-wooded areas. Some in Ireland have noted that both the pine marten and red squirrels have increased in numbers while there has been some decline in the grey squirrel.
This photo was taken using my Canon R6 with the RF 100-500 mm lens. I had an open aperture of f/5.6 with a shutter speed of 1/64o sec which resulted in an auto ISO of 6400. I under-exposed by one third of a stop as often the tips of the pine martens ears being bright will have blown highlights.
