My new Leopard Gecko

For a long time I have wanted a frog or a gecko.  Many birthday and Christmases when asked what I wanted I would say a frog or a gecko.  And for years I got plastic or metal substitutes.  This year Lindsey gave me a voucher for a pet shop that sold the 'real' thing.  I went in a few times looking at the options and did my research.  I concluded that a leopard gecko was the best starter reptile so decided that's what I would aim from.  The shop assistant suggested that one of the two adult geckos would be easier to handle.  This four year old lady had lovely colours and seemed to be the one.  I bought all the necessary equipment and had her reserved to pick up when the enclosure was properly set up.

It is not easy to photography a nocturnal lizard!!!  This photo was taken in her enclosure with some of the black wooden background providing a neat background.  You will see from the photo below that in general her enclosure is a lot more cluttered (which they require) and not as conducive to good photos. The photo above was taken with my 100mm EF macro lens on my Canon R6.  I set the aperture to f/5.6 because at the f/2.8 open aperture a lot of the gecko was unfocused.  The shutter speed was set at 1/80 sec. to try let in enough light without killing the ISO which still ended up at 5000.

(1/200 sec. shutter with f/2.8 aperture and ISO 4000)
