A sizable area of grass was covered in fully flowering Narcissus at the National Botanic Gardens in Kilmacurragh. The particular variety had a stunning red edge to the cup which was surrounded by the six very white petals.
From a photography perspective I wanted to try isolate one of the flowers but still show the context, others in the background. I had my 100-400mm plus 1.4 extender on my R6 as I had been trying to take some photos of a thrush. I used a shutter speed of 1/320 sec hand held as the image stabilisation in the R6 allows you to shoot without having to set at double the focal length, which for this shot was 420mm. I used an aperture of f11 which kept the featured flower in focus but the background somewhat blurred which is the affect I was after. I think because I am using an adapter to facilitate my old EF 100-400mm lens, along with the 1.4 extender I get more of a blurred background than would expect for the aperture. The ISO was 320.
