Just looking back at some photos taken last weekend during a short stoll in Tymon Park on the lookout for ducklings. I didn't get any duckling photos but I managed to observe a Song Thrush searching the grass for some grub. I then noticed another one and observed both for a while. I started off with my usual approach of taking a few shots from a distance standing upright, then moving closer without distrubing them. Then when I noticed it not disturbed by my presence I bent as low as I could to get a better composition more a it's eye level rather than mine! For this shot I had my usual settings of a shutter set at 1/1000 and an open aperture of f8 due to the 1.4 extender being attached to my 100-400mm lens. Auto ISO was a reasonable 2000 considering the conditions! I managed a decent depth of field in the shot despite the f8 setting with the daisies blurring and not too distracting.
According to Birdwatch Ireland a Song Thrush is 'roughly the size of a Blackbird, plain brown upperparts and buffish white underside, with prominent arrow-shaped black spots in lines down the breast and flanks'
A few minutes later I noticed a much larger bird and when I got closer I noticed it had a juicy worm in it's mouth. The setting is not as nice as the featured image due to it perched on the wire! I am struggling with identifing this one still!
