Reflections of Dublin - old among new

I promised the daughter a lift to town today. Not having been out with the camera since New Years Eve I decided to pop the camera in the car and try a bit of street photography. Of course, I still brought the long lens as well. A quick drive into the city centre, I parked beside the college where I work. A weird feeling, not having been on campus since mid November. It seemed strange to be in the city again. It was before lunch on a Sunday and the city was quiet. The few people about either had mask on or hanging under their chin. Signs of Covid restrictions everywhere.

I took a short walk through the Temple Bar area before heading to Dublin Castle and Castle Gardens.
Gardens have existed in Dublin Castle since at least the early years of the seventeenth century. There are a number of small gardens within the gardens, including memorial garden remembering the GardaĆ who lost their lives in the line of duty. The OPW website explains that 'the overall design of the garden are intended to reflect how the premature deaths of loved ones leave a trace or imprint, like ripples in a pool, on the lives of those left behind'.

The scene in this particular photo caught my eye in two ways. Firstly, the strong colouring, the pink of the statue on the right, the dark blue glass and then the bright painted buildings in the background. The second thing to catch my eye was the reflection in the water at the serpent statue. The old building reflecting among the new more modern features. It is a fussy image, the serpent on the right one third draws you in somewhat but there is still confusing. Old and new mixed together.

The photo was taken with a Canon R6 and a 14-35 mm (set at 24 mm) lens hand held.  The shutter was set at 1/100 sec  with an aperture set of f11 and an auto iso gave 200.
