This photo was taken at Dubin Falconry located at Luttrelstown Castle Resort on the 3rd of October. I had organised a trip for fellow nature group members at Dublin Camera Club. A falconry is a great location to practice taking photos of large birds. Portraits can be a challenge as the jesses make it obvious that it is a captive bird. A similar problem will occur when the birds are flying with either the jesses or a wire impacting the shot.
Personally, I find birds in flight very challenging so having the opportunity to practice at a falconry was great. I was lucky with this owl shot as there was only minor editing of jesses / wire necessary. The wall also provided an interesting backdrop for the owl, one that the owl can blend into but for the bright eyes! I used a very fast shutter of 1/5000 sec with an open aperture of f5. Auto iso came to a setting of 3200. My EF 100-400 mm lens was zoomed to 142mm on my Canon R6 without an extender.
