I spent ages watching the antics of a pair of
geese on the northern side of Tymon Park. This particular shot is my
favourite from the set of photos. I think it is the colour combination of
blue and orange in the eye, complementary colours on the colour wheel and so
strong with a high contrast to the white feathers.
Technically it is a challenge to shoot white birds,
and it is usually wise to under-expose to avoid burnout on the white. I
was lucky in that it was cloudy and I wasn't challenged with harsh
sunlight. The settings I used were 1/1000 shutter with aperture set at
f10 and auto ISO capture set to 250. I was using my 100-400mm Canon lens
on a Canon 5Diii camera. I generally use manual mode with auto ISO.
